We went to Geneva at the beginning of last week to look for houses. Annoyingly you can’t take knitting needles on planes…which is ridiculous as I don’t believe many of mine are sharper than a pen. Anyway I came up with another portable craft solution. When we were on holiday in France I bought some bibs from a market stall that had Aida pannels on them for you to cross-stitch your own designs on. It seemed more possible to get a needle through airport security than knitting needles.
I spent a fair old while looking for some decent cross stitch patterns on the internet. In the end I found some borders from Nancy Spruance Designs .
I know these are the most impractical bibs in the history of bibs but I think they look soooo cute. The bunny one would be good for Easter Sunday and the hearts one would be nice for Valentines’s Day – I suspect that you could only use them once becuase they’ll be ruined after that. (Mark has just seen me type this and I thinks I’ve wasted hours if that’s the case).
I enjoyed doing the sewing either way, and I’ve found that as long as you don’t want to take scissors you can do embroidery on a plane.
Oh Lizzy – they look so sweet! It’d be such a pity to use them!!
Vanish soap bar will no doubt work the neccessary wonders!
You must sew faster than a BA plane in full flight! Impressed. I would have had to do the Trans Sib to get all that stitching done !
Wow, they are adorable, I really love the bunny one. These should definitely be gifts as then you won’t worry about them getting dirty. Was it annoying sewing inside the flap at all?
It was fine sewing in the flap, a little awkward at the edges. I did a row of running stitch at the top in White going through both the aida and the flannel so that the flap section doesn’t collect food in it!
Love the post, love the bibs but most of all love the fact you’ve outwitted airport security!
[…] with Kimberly and Simon I bought a couple of bibs with cross stitch panels, which I showed you here, and a towel with a cross stitch panel on the hood. They were purchased from the market in […]
Lovely unusual bibs. Ive never found any bibs with cross stitch. I wonder if you can get cross stitch bandana bibs?
