Here’s the baby project I was talking about. It’s a baby giraffe (not a large mouse as my Mum suggested) from the Wee Wonderfuls book by Hilary Lang. This is the same person that designed the Peanut the Elephant pattern that I’ve made so many of.
It’s made using some fabric that I had in my stash. I think it’s a Moda fabric but I really can’t be sure.

I found this pattern a lot trickier, the seams at the front were a bit of a nightmare for me (I’m not very experienced in making stuffed toys). I had to pull the front gusset apart and re-cut the piece, as I made such a mess of it.
I chose to embroider the eyes with a satin stitch rather than messing around with a tiny piece of felt, which I really struggle with. I’m particularly fond of the horn-type things (apparently known as ossicones) on this giraffe.

If anyone has any name suggestions for this particularl baby giraffe please leave me a comment and let me know!
He looks like he should be called Jaffie the Giraffe. x
I have the hardest time with picking names but I still had to pop in and tell you that I just totally love your giraffe!
I am not exactly accomplished with stuffies either and hate those front joins. I am making a pink pony right now and I hope the little girl it is for will forgive the too short legs! I fear the mane and tail may be the only thing separating it from looking like a dogie!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has trouble with gussets, etc., on stuffed animals. I actually just abandoned an attempt to make the kitty from that book because the head was so tricky. But I was hoping the giraffe was simpler because that was my next choice!
Hi Holly – Thanks for your comment on my blog. Have you got the lastminute patchwork book because the elephant in that is considerably easier than the giraffe. I’m not very experienced at making stuffed toys so if you’re more competent than an amateur like me you might well find it a lot easier. Lizzy
